Newall Green High School recognises that Home Learning and revision is a key factor in supporting Year 11 students for their GCSE examinations. Excellent learning habits such as organisation, prioritisation and practice enable students to be independent learners equipped for success in all they do. Revision is work that is set to be done outside the timetabled curriculum that will prepare students for their GCSE exams. It contains an element of independent study in that it is not usually directly supervised by a teacher. It is important in raising student achievement; it enhances student learning, improves achievement and develops students' study skills. Students need to self-manage their own revision and prioritise time outside of school to fill gaps in their knowledge, develop essential skills and practise exam technique.
Revision can be done after school or at break time in the school library or at local libraries should students require a quiet learning environment.
Teachers will facilitate pupils’ revision by providing resources, past exam papers and recall booklets. Revision guides are available to purchase from Faculty Leaders. Faculty leaders can recommend particular revision websites and https://www.bbc.com/bitesize is a really useful resource tailored to exam board specifications.

Revision timetables are a good start to encouraging students to organise their learning and prioritise their revision. This helps build a routine and habit which supports students in partaking in active revision regularly. There is a blank copy students can download to complete.
