Wood Street Mission is an independent children’s charity helping families and children living on low incomes in Manchester and Salford. It has been going since 1869. They provide practical help to meet children’s day-to-day needs and improve their life chances. They support families with clothing, bedding and baby equipment, toys and books, help with the cost of going to school, and promote children’s reading and literacy.
One of their projects is called ‘Books Forever’, and usually they hold ‘Books Forever’ clubs in the summer providing lunch and a range of activities; children normally get to take a bag of books home with them. Due to Coronavirus, this project is currently on hold. However, Wood Street Mission are working in partnership with schools during lockdown to try and support children with their access to books and reading. We have been lucky enough to receive books to share with some of our KS3 students.
