This week Year 9 students who took part in the Manchester International Festival’s ‘Creative Critics’ project with ‘Allways Making’ were presented with their certificates for the Arts Award Bronze qualification they gained whilst working with the festival. Mrs Jones invited Alexia, Kaydon, Caitlyn, Isabelle, and Faye to have hot chocolate and congratulate them on their achievements.
When they students were in Year 8, during the Summer Term of last year, they worked with creatives from Allways Making and Manchester International Festival (MIF), watching and reviewing performances from the festival. MIF is an internationally recognised celebration of the arts which takes place in various locations across the city and hosts the main festival hub in Albert Square. As well as the chance to take part in the biggest creative and cultural event in Manchester, students also built upon their confidence, literacy, oracy and communication skills during the project, gaining and Arts Award qualification at the end. Creative professionals visited school to introduce the Creative Critics project to students and families before students attended three events, and subsequent workshops to work on their review. Events the group attended were Invisible Cities, Atmospheric Memory, and finally David Lynch at HOME at which they interviewed the curator! Student reviews are now available on the MIF website here.
The group really immersed themselves in the project and we are very proud of their achievements. Please see a slideshow of photographs from the project below.
