Newall Green High School has been working in partnership with Manchester Museum for the past year as we embed cultural learning across the school. This partnership has opened up fantastic learning and enrichment opportunities for our students, one of which was the design challenge ‘Clocking On’. Michael Whitworth, Head of Commercial Operations, challenged Year 8 Design Technology students to develop products which would be manufactured and sold in the Museum shop. Michael wrote a guest article on the Museum blog, explaining all about the project, read all about it here. At the end of last term, Newall Green High School were invited to ‘A Night At The Museum’. This was an exciting fun filled evening designed by a group of Year 9 students for over 100 fellow NGHS students from Years 7-9. Activities were available across the Museum site including face painting, film screening of ‘Night at the Museum’, a photo booth with costume box, bingo, astrology table and DJ under the dinosaur which later was the setting for a flamboyant fashion show by the students. The museum treated us to a pizza station and soft drinks bar and staff made us feel very welcome. For some students, this was their first experience of a Museum and for others it was a way to experience a museum in a new and innovative way. Students really showed enthusiasm for the event and spoke of how they hoped to introduce siblings and family members to the museum. Please see a selection of the images from the night below.
