NGHS have begun their work with Always Making and Manchester International Festival 2019 (MIF19). A group of Year 8 students will be working with creatives from the festival as they become ‘Creative Critics’. The project offers the students the opportunity to attend events and see works of art throughout the festival and come up with their own critiques and reviews. Each student will also gain an Arts Award qualification for their work on the project. On Monday 29th of April, families joined the Year 8 students as Kate Houlton, MIF Community Coordinator, and Christina Birt from Always Making introduced MIF and the Creative Critics project. MIF is an internationally recognised celebration of the arts which takes place in various locations across the city and hosts the main festival hub in Albert Square. This year the festival takes place from July 4th-21st, there will be performances and works from Idris Elba, Janelle Monet, Skepta and David Lynch amongst many other exceptional artists and NGHS students will attend a number of events as well as take part in creative workshops with professional artists as they become Creative Critics. As well as the chance to take part in the biggest creative and cultural event in Manchester, students will also build on their confidence and literacy, oracy and communication skills during the project. Residents of the city can access ticketed events at a huge discount by purchasing tickets for £10 here. The official launch film can be seen below,
