Year 10 students got a first-hand glimpse of life at Wythenshawe Hospital.
The group of nine students attended a Pathology Taster Day, covering many different areas, including haematology and biochemistry.
The day included a talk from a patient with Cystic Fibrosis, who had undergone a lung transplant.
The students learned how to extract their DNA, observed fungal infections under microscope, test for certain blood types and how to take blood.
Mr Ranson, science teacher who organised the visit, said: "The students really enjoyed themselves - they bought into the day and learned a lot about the practical side of pathology."
