SEN

Welcome to Newall Green High School; a fully accessible school that caters for students with a full range of Special Educational Needs.

Arrangements for identification, assessing and reviewing students are described in our SEND Policy. Further details, including our approaches to teaching, consulting with parents and transition are clarified in our SEND Information Report. For more information about the Manchester Local Offer visit www.manchester.gov.uk/sendlocaloffer.

Our staff have a range of qualifications and experience across SEN and have had awareness raising sessions on Autistic Spectrum Conditions, ADHD and Speech, Language and Communication needs. The SENDCo, ASC Co-ordinator and specialist teaching assistants have Level1 ASC training provided in partnership with Manchester University. Staff have specialist teaching qualifications; some for dyslexia and English as an additional language (EAL) specifically.

Our Learning 2 Learn base provides a nurturing environment within school for students who require extra support for their social and emotional development; their progress and achievement is monitored carefully using alternative, nationally developed systems. The SENDCo and other staff consult with parents and students to design Student Profiles showing how best to support individual children; we are happy to meet with parents on a regular basis outside of Reviews and Parents Evenings. The electronic personal education plan used by Manchester has a section for SEN need which is completed by the Designated Teacher for Looked After Children and SENDCo in close communication as appropriate to the individual child. This education plan is reviewed each term with student/carers/social workers and key school staff. Half termly reviews are held by educational workers and social workers to ensure the plan meets emerging needs. The agreed educational targets will respond to any particular educational need and on-going requirements including where appropriate use of Pupil Premium. The SENDCo, Link Governor and Head Teacher are named in our SEN Policy. For further information regarding any of the above report or policies please contact school.
